SCCA EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
MISSION AND PURPOSE
We also believe that participation in extra-curricular activities, especially athletics, provides a great opportunity for SCCA students to mature in their Christian character through both physical and intellectual competition outside the classroom. These activities also enhance the overall student body and culture of the academy as students and parents are blessed through participation in various competitions and tournaments.
SCCA EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
MISSION AND PURPOSE Stratford Classical Christian Academy believes that extracurricular activities provide an exceptional opportunity to further the mission of SCCA as we seek to build a Legacy of Christian Leaders. SCCA seeks to provide various extracurricular activities in order to supplement the academic education of our students. We recognize that God has created our students with minds and bodies and their physical development is important. The apostle Paul contrasts physical versus spiritual development saying, “For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.”(I Tim 4:8) The Bible recognizes that physical exercise including sports has value but warns that it is limited in its lifelong impact while godliness is of unlimited eternal value.
SCCA’s leadership recognizes the tendency in the American culture to create an idol out of sports and sadly this idolatry has infiltrated the thinking of many Christians. Our desire is not to legalistically react against this idolatry but to graciously pursue and restore in our students’ minds a biblical view of sports.
SCCA’s extracurricular program is self-consciously designed to supplement and serve the educational pursuits of SCCA students but in no way do we desire at any point that these extracurricular activities supercede SCCA’s commitment to Classical Christian
education as the primary tool to instill in students a lifelong Christian Worldview. We believe that with the Lord’s blessing a thorough uncompromising Christian education coupled with godly parenting will produce godliness that is profitable for all things. We affirm the Apostle Paul’s teaching that young Christian students must begin to learn the will of God and offer themselves as living sacrifices through the renewing of their mind. Renewing their minds must have first priority not being on the championship baseball team. The apostle Paul says “…Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mi
nd, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Romans 12:1-2). Therefore extracurricular activities will serve the academic pursuits of SCCA students and not the other way around.
With this balance in mind, we recognize that God has gifted SCCA students outside the classroom in a variety of ways, including abilities in athletics, drama, science, chess, debate, etc. Our extracurricular program provides an opportunity for these students to develop and use their God-given abilities.

SCCA intends to offer the following extracurricular activities based on coaching and student participation:
